THE COACHING PROCESS

How is life coaching different
than therapy or consulting?

Coaching is not therapy, which goes into depth about various issues, usually dealing with the past, focusing on healing work.  Coaches do not diagnose, analyze or treat mental illness.  Coaches are trained to recognize when a client has an issue that is not suited for coaching and will refer the client to a therapist.  Coaching is not consulting, which generally solves problems for the client by providing solutions that are based on their professional knowledge.  Coaching is action-oriented and focuses primarily on the present and the future, moving the client from where they are to where they want to be.  However, it is perfectly natural for a client to share past experiences when dealing with a limiting belief or inner block. The coach believes the client already has the answers they are looking for within themselves.

The coaching process facilitates the client to connect with their own inner resources, enabling them to develop the confidence and belief in themselves to reach their goals, bringing lasting change and results in their lives.
